Welcome to the fourth installment of my TL;DR on the intersection of Sales and AI!

Every week we interview Sales Leaders, Individual Contributors (ICs), and SalesOps experts about Sales and AI. Since the field is emerging rapidly, I wanted to share my learnings with you.

Top things we heard from Sales Leaders

  • Sales Leaders find AI entering data into the CRM helpful, but they believe the real value is in answering how do I unlock this deal? They are looking to use AI to pattern match and identify what a successful closed deals look like.
  • Sales leaders are seeing a trend where AI is posed as a buddy to IC's and Sales teams and as a hall monitor for Sales Leaders to employ.  
  • Sales leaders at early-stage startups find that they have no playbook that is repeatable and are always in the learning phase. They don't want to restrict imagination. They want AI to help expand/improve their playbook.

Top things we heard from Individual Contributors

  • Some IC's are shying away from integrating chat based AI into their daily workflow because of the high effort required in sourcing and prepping relevant data to load into AI to get a quality response.
  • IC's believe that AI can be helpful in the sales development process. They imaging it confirming if a follow up event is locked in through calendar invites synced into their CRM. It would also flag deals accordingly.
  • IC's believe that AI can help handle angry responses during prospecting by suggesting objection handling steps to appropriately address a No.

ChatGPT prompts we hear sales teams are trying today:

  • "Check the following text for spelling and grammar errors,” then enter the text.
  • "Check the following text for professional voice and tone. Use industry-specific language and terminology for sales."
